“Thank you for taking the time to write to the Ann Arbor Board of Education regarding the superintendent search. The Board always welcomes the input of our constituents. As secretary, I am responding on behalf of the entire Board. The Board met last night to determine how to proceed with the superintendent search. It is our intention to begin the search immediately, with the goal of having a new superintendent hired and in place on or before September 1 of this year. We will be looking both internally and externally for highly qualified candidates. Any current employee of the Ann Arbor Public Schools will have the opportunity to apply for the superintendent position as soon as it is posted, and we encourage anyone who is interested and feels he or she is qualified for the position to apply. We will also be naming an interim superintendent for the period between the departure of Dr. Green and the start date of the new superintendent . We anticipate that the interim superintendent will be in place for a very limited time, although circumstances could work out differently. The interim superintendent may apply for the permanent position if he or she wishes to do so, and will be considered along with the other candidates. There is, however, no expectation that the interim superintendent will be named the permanent superintendent. The Board will not consider any specific candidate for the permanent position until the application deadline has passed. We anticipate that this will occur on or around June 1. Members of the public who are supportive of a specific individual should encourage him or her to apply, as we will not consider individuals who do not go through the application process.
