Warrick County Animal Nuisance Ordinances

Warrick County Animal Nuisance Ordinances

The Issue

Commisioners of Warrick County passed an ordinance September of 2018 stating that an animal is considered a nuisance if it damages, soils, defiles, defecates on, or, damage private or public property- basically stating that we are breaking the law if we walk our animals on sidewalks, public parks, trails, etc. and will be fined for each incident up to $500. We are concerned citizens who urge our commissioners to act now to make changes to the language recently passed about part 131.01,131.16, and 131.99 in the Warrick County Code of Ordinances. The current language does not promote small town community values or provide an atmosphere conductive to community living that promotes sidewalk and trail use, nature, and comfort, but harassment of animal owners using public right of ways, sidewalks, public trails, and public parks for walking their animals and to stop the animal control officers from issuing tickets and fines until the ordinance is revised.
