Animal Safety Camera Installation at Magic Johnson Rec Center Dog Park

Animal Safety Camera Installation at Magic Johnson Rec Center Dog Park
The Issue
As a devoted animal rescuer and advocate in the LA area, it is heart-wrenching to witness the recurring incidents of animal abandonment (dog dumping!) and the illegal selling of dogs for profit (backyard breeding!) at the dog park portion of the Earvin "Magic" Johnson Rec Center and its adjacent parking lot. Let's honor the living legend Magic Johnson, and do better.
My dear friend, Matt, from Compton.K9 is a renowned rescuer and local business owner serving the community in Compton, CA. He has been making commendable efforts to attend to the needs of these abandoned dogs. In the past week alone (9/9/24 to 9/16/24), nine (NINE!!!!) dogs were dumped in the enclosed dog park area of the Rec Center. Left to their fate -- with no food, no notes, nothing. Thus, what was intended as a safe-haven for dogs, has now become a dumping ground.
The world is a better place because of Matt as he tirelessly worked to find already over-burdened rescues and good samaritans to get these dogs into foster homes and make sure they are vetted, fed, and medically attended to. However, his efforts underline the pressing need for an official, and municipal, intervention. The burden caused by people committing ILLEGAL animal abandonment should not fall on the shoulders of the community, and, these people need to be prosecuted for such illegal acts.
Apart from the awful and cruel act of people illegally dumping dogs, people are ALSO selling, unlicensed no less, puppies out of their cars at the dog park and in the parking lot. This is absurd as we are in a TOTAL animal population crisis in LA county. It is also ILLEGAL.
The Solution & Why You Should Sign This Petition (pretty please)
A simple but effective solution would be imploring Los Angeles County Parks and Rec to install cameras in the dog park and the attached parking lot.
These cameras would serve two crucial purposes:
(1) They would deter individuals from engaging in the illegal activities of dog dumping and the unlawful sale of dogs at the Rec Center's dog park; and
(2) They would help law enforcement catch the violators (and enforce the law), in the hopes that the more people that are prosecuted for these acts in violation of our animal welfare laws, it would result, overtime, in our community seeing less of these acts occurring.
So, let's request the city/county authorities, and more specifically Los Angeles County Parks and Rec, to install these cameras, to cease the harm inflicted on these innocent animals, and foster a safer community for everyone!
Stand up for our four-legged friends who can't voice their plight.
