Many New Yorkers have opened up their homes to rescue the thousands of animals in nonprofit rescues and city shelters.

Many of these animals bring us immense joy, but sometimes they have chronic medical conditions that place a financial burden on pet parents.

Pet insurance carriers will often callously refuse to reimburse pet medical expenses, citing them as "pre-existing" conditions.

We are asking New York state to allow those who have rescued animals from nonprofits or city shelters to offset medical expenses in yearly filed state taxes.

This provides some financial relief to those adopting rescues with medical needs and incentivizes those concerned about costs to adopt.

Hopefully, we can urge New York legislators to pass a bill and perhaps other states will follow.
