We care because plastic is killing the environment. 1 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide annually. Billions of these plastic bags end up in the environment each year. In the environment these are killing animals that mistake them for food. This is happening worldwide. 10% of all of the plastic ends up in the ocean or waterways. That can kill many species living in bodies of water worldwide, and are polluting the environment.

If they end up in the landfill, they can still pollute the environment. It can take 1,000 years just for 1 bag to degrade. So imagine trillions of bags releasing toxins for 1,000s of years.
