MOORE COUNTY IS CONSIDERING A BOND TO FUND A NEW SHELTER IN PREPARATION TO MOVE OUR GROWING COUNTY FORWARD, WITH RESPECT TO ANIMAL WELFARE, WE REQUEST:

- THAT THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELINQUISH ANIMAL SERVICES IN ITS ENTIRETY
- THAT ANIMAL SERVICES IS ESTABLISHED AS AN INDEPENDENT DEPARTMENT TO REPORT TO COUNTY MANAGEMENT
- THAT A PROFESSIONAL DIRECTOR OF ANIMAL WELFARE IS HIRED TO CREATE AND OVERSEE A LONG-TERM PLAN FOR ANIMAL SERVICES

TO INCLUDE:

• PROGRAMS TO REDUCE INTAKE AND DECREASE THE OVERALL EUTHANASIA RATE
•  HIRING AND TRAINING ANIMAL RESOURCE OFFICERS (100% DEDICATED TO ANIMAL SERVICES)
•  UTILIZING EXISTING NETWORKS OF LOCAL RESOURCES (INCLUDING VOLUNTEERS AND ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPS)
•  THE OVERSIGHT AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW SHELTER DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE

PETITION

We, the undersigned, request that Animal Services be removed in its
entirety from the Sheriff’s Office, that an animal welfare professional be hired to drive a long-term plan for Animal Services in Moore County, including programs to reduce intake, increase adoptions and decrease the overall euthanasia rate and to establish a team of 100% dedicated Animal Resource Officers.
