Across the internet, hidden groups are organising and funding the torture of baby monkeys purely for entertainment.
Tiny infants are beaten, burned, mutilated and killed on camera while viewers watch from behind their screens — sometimes even paying to request the next act of cruelty. In some cases, mothers are killed in front of their babies before the abuse begins.
These criminals are organised networks where members pay to join, vote on torture methods and celebrate the violence together. Investigators have warned that these groups operate in ways disturbingly similar to online abuse rings — closed communities where cruelty escalates as members encourage each other to commit ever more extreme acts.
Yet despite the horrific nature of these crimes, the punishments handed down in some cases are shockingly weak. In one recent case in the United States, a woman involved in these monkey torture networks received just 40 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. For crimes involving the deliberate torture and killing of defenceless baby animals for entertainment, that sentence is outrageously lenient.
People who pay to watch animals tortured are not passive observers. They are the customers who keep this cruelty alive. Without their money and encouragement, these videos would not exist.
