This petition is to gather support behind Bebop (the pig) and for other pot belly pigs in this community. The city of Layton (Utah) is attempting to have me remove my pig from my property. Their city codes do not explicitly state that pot belly pigs are not allowed within their city limits. They define animal husbandry and livestock as animals being used for production purposes such as breeding or food. I am here to challenge this.
I am in the process of going to trial. I am also in the process of changing the archaic Layton city codes regarding this matter. Other cities have already begun to understand that Pot belly pigs are pets, it is time Layton city did as well!
Bebop is a pet. He has been surgically castrated, I pay taxes on his pet food (unlike tax exempt livestock feed), and he is not used for any livestock purposes. Pigs are rated as the 4th most intelligent animal on Earth. He knows his name, sit, lay down, spin in either direction, how to play the mini piano, and many more amazing tricks. He walks on a leash, loves his pool, and is very clean. He does not create noise, most people in my neighbor are not even aware we have a pig. He is an emotional support animal and has provided me with the tools to face the world everyday. He is a fundamental part of my family. I cannot imagine my life without this wonderful, loving, sweet animal. He deserves a voice.
Please sign if you feel that Bebop and other pig lovers should be allowed in Layton city. His life is in the balance! Please save Bebop! Thank you all!
