LA VERGNE – A La Vergne man was arrested and charged Sunday with animal cruelty, according to a La Vergne Police Department news release.
According to the release, Timothy Sams was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and resisting arrest shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The La Vergne Police Department received a call about a man dragging a dog with his car, the release stated.
The complainant was another motorist who saw Sams dragging the dog, the release stated. The motorist called police, followed the car and even recorded the act as evidence for police once they arrived.
The complainant followed Sams to his home and stood by until officers arrived, the release stated.
Once there, Sams refused to come to the door.
After about 90 minutes, Sams came out of the house but then resisted arrest when officers took him into custody, the release stated.
According to the release, the dog is being cared for at the Pet Adoption & Welfare Services shelter and likely suffered a broken leg or two from being run over by a rear wheel of Sams' vehicle.

Sams is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where his bond was set at $8,000.
