We make this petition to demand justice for the death of our daughter GABRIELLA SHERYL HOWARD (8 years old, grade 3 SD), who was drowned,on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 at about 09:00, in the Swimming Pool of her school: GLOBAL SEVILLA PURI INDAH JAKARTA while following a compulsory swimming program organized by the school. She then managed to rescue her friend but got herself losing control over herself and got herself drowning. At that very moment, the sport teacher was busy giving out some tests to other students at the border of the pool, thus did not pay any attention to what was happening inside the pool. Please note that there is only 1 sport teacher to supervise 15 students, and this sport teacher is NOT a lifeguard (there is NO LIFEGUARD during this program), and he does not have what it takes to do emergency rescue. However, because of their poor supervision, our daughter's life is gone, and we have to bear the pain of losing our lovable daughter who was trying to rescue her friend's life and sacrificed her own. The video with the incident chronologies (based on the testimony of her friends who saw the incident) can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qepCPNBYok We therefore demand our President Joko Widodo to order the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to investigate the case of the above aspects regarding the REGULATORY COMPLIANCE and LIABILITY of this school, in order to assure the security and safety of their pupils and IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON THE GUILTY PARTIES according to legal laws applicable. We ask also that there should be a verification to check whether the school operations accord with the international schools' provisions and standards in general. We wish Mr. President Joko Widodo to be willing to give special attention to these events, hoping that Indonesian education could be better and more safe for students. There should not be another Gaby or so called victims of school operation failures. We need Mr. President to give special attention and strict punishment regarding this case, so that the school would pay attention to students safety and shall not frighten parents.
