Angus Council introduced half sized bins and fortnightly collections around five years ago. This is a quarter of the service given by some local authorities. The kerbside recycling facility appears to be under used and a waste of resources, time and money. These funds could be used to provide a better service in other aspects, eg continue the garden waste collections free of charge. Recyclable material is sent to South Wales by road - hardly the most environmental method to achieve their "green goals." Collections were until recently regularly missed or delayed. Angus Council want to close various recycling centres across the region. This will impact on nearby Local Authorities and increase flytipping Angus Council now require those wishing to have their garden waste uplifted to pay £25 a year in advance. This department is a shambles and needs to be reviewed entirely and the community listened to. A new domestic refuse system, following full public consultation of what services residents feel they need, should be implemented.
