The Issue

In the past two years, the Dog Park Association of Southwest Boston has made great progress toward the goal of reopening the Thompson Center as a multi-use park, with a large emphasis on a place for dog owners to safely exercise their dogs:

  • The Association entered into a partnership with DCR to raise funds for the restoration and long-term maintenance of the park.
  • $10,000 was raised to hire a design firm.
  • A working group that included both opponents and proponents of the dog park, worked with the design firm and developed a preliminary design that worked for multiple interests.

Progress came to a screeching halt last spring due to a very small number of Hyde Park residents who oppose the dog park. Local Representatives have only heard from these opponents thus far.

We need to show our local officials that there are many more people in Hyde Park and the surrounding communities who are in favor of developing a dog park at the Thompson Center.

We believe the dog park at the Thompson Center creates a big opportunity for homeowners and local businesses.  It will improve public safety in Stony Brook and revitalize a public park that is currently abandoned and vandalized.
