In most countries, adults can legally decide to get tattooed by themselves. In some of these countries, minors are also allowed to get tattooed or the legal status is unclear. Others, like the United States and some European countries, ban it or allow it only if the parents consent. This practice is wrong. It is not the body of their parents! The diversity of parents also creates an inequitable situation because the most close-minded parents prevent mature and thoughtful ideas from getting done while the most open-minded parents allow almost anything. Even at 18 years of age, where tattooing is almost always allowed, some people are immature. In this case, regardless of the age of the person, the tattoo artist can always try to dissuade the person from getting the tattoo. But banning it favors the emergence of illegal tattooing which carries the risk of infection. In the West, the age of sexual majority is almost always 16 years old or younger. It is therefore logical that people who have reached the sexual majority can do what they want with their body. Therefore, we demand that the governments of the diverse countries of the world clearly recognize the right of people 16 and over to get tattooed without parental consent.
