People with disabilities ranging from Autism to Down syndrome to Schizophrenia and more, already have a much more difficult time with daily tasks. Enduring an invasive medical procedure in a Clinic, ER or Hospital can be detrimental w/sometimes extreme dire consequences preceding the experience.

At times, medical procedures that are invasive are needed and can save lives and no one who has special needs or is a victim of abuse (or a Veteran who can suffer flashbacks & go into flight/fight mode from sounds, touch and smell) is immune to needing Medical Care and that includes invasive procedures. NOTE: Many people who require medicating can endure even more medical emergencies from side effects or the disability in itself. Examples are nasogastric tubes, catheterization and male or female exams, spinal taps at cetera. People can be brought to an ER or Hospital and they require emergency surgery so they call the team of anesthesiologists. In the same manner, doctors and nurses should be able to call them when a patient presents with various disabilities as I mentioned above or abuse victims so that invasive tests and treatment can be performed safely and with a lot less severe consequences, pain, fear, regression and catatonic states, even attempted suicide. Doctors are also at risk when they have to try and restrain patients.

• If you love someone who has various disabilities or are victims as well as our incredible veterans who could benefit greatly from this petitioning for making sure a clinic or Hospital could not deny anesthesia services for patients who need it, please do sign and share this. I can speak from experience and I know of others but out of respect will not disclose their names. Some may come back and say full anesthesia has risks which is true but there is even Twilight anesthesia and similar where once it is stopped the patient awakes and there is usually no adverse reactions of nausea or anything. There are also medications that can be used to prevent the bladder from shutting down like Toradol as an example. The safety for the doctors and the patients should be first and foremost acknowledged and then put into action, not denied. Things can change and it can start with just one signature and a share.

Many times the piece that is missing is you. However you can start making that chain of difference and also be a voice for those who cannot express what they want to and need to. You and me and your families can make a difference, right here and right now. Remember, this is for the countless patients in need but also for the medical professionals' safety.
