Stop Noxious Odors from Aluf

Aluf Plastics is a plastic bag manufacturing company that runs 24 hours 6 days a week. They came to Orangetown in the 80's starting in a 100,000 square foot facility with 8 extruders. Now in 2016, they have grown to a 500,000 square foot facility with 70 extruders. They emit disgusting noxious odors into our town. It affects our quality of life, real estate value and potentially our health. Aluf is located a 1/2 mile from homes, schools, churches and a walking trail. We care because we are living and raising our families in this great town and we cannot even enjoy our yards. We close our windows to keep the odor out and some residents have reported becoming nauseous from the odors. Some are reporting that it is causing headaches. We are very concerned about what long term health implications this odor may have for all residents and especially our children.
Orangetown residents have been issuing complaints for years with no results.
Orangetown Building Department has cited Aluf for violating the town code on odors.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued warnings and is investigating Aluf for violating NYS Air Pollution Control Law.
The taxes we pay are high and we deserve to have existing regulations and codes enforced. Stronger regulations and oversight are needed to oversee what manufacturers we allow in our town.
The residents of Orangetown and surrounding area urge the Orangetown Town Board, the Orangetown Building Department, the Rockland County Health Department and our County government to help stop this odor immediately.
