Shouting Out For 1950s Women!

Silver Voices has identified significant surplus funds in the National Insurance Fund (NIF) to pay the compensation to the 1950s women recommended by the Parliamentary Ombudsman. As of March 2025, at least £55 billion was available, not required for other contingencies. Journalists at the Daily Express approached the Treasury with our claims, which were not refuted. The only costs to the Treasury if £10 billion was used to settle the dispute would be the interest lost by not investing it, a relatively small one-off cost to provide justice for the 1950s women. This investigation shows that the Government is lying when it says that it cannot fulfil its promises to the women because of cost. Silver Voices will keep raising this issue because there is a danger that the cause will be forgotten by the media.
