Funding Found For WASPI Compensation!
Research by Silver Voices, the only UK-wide representative organisation for older people, has found that the National Insurance Fund is carrying a huge standing surplus of over £70 billion, many times more than the amount required to settle the WASPI scandal and which could easily fund the Parliamentary Ombudsman's recommendations for just compensation for the 1950s women, who were given insufficient notice of the rise in their state pension ages. This surplus, funded directly by NI contributions, is sitting in Treasury coffers and could be used tomorrow, without putting any pressure on government finances or threatening the security of our state pension scheme. Labour has been trying to wriggle out of its promises to the 1950s women by saying that the compensation is unaffordable and by tying WASPI up in legal costs. Unaffordability is a lie, as our research shows.
