Andy Burnham - Keep Your Promise To The Rochdale Family

The Issue

We call on Andy Burnham to keep his promise to meet the Rochdale family whose daughter was the victim in a case that ended with not-guilty verdicts in March 2026.

Three boys met the then 13 year old girl and her friend on a tram. CCTV and evidence showed them following the girls, blocking their path, and putting their arms around them. The friend heard the girl say no, saw she looked scared, heard her crying, and physically stopped what was happening. The boys filmed part of the incident and shared the footage.

The jury returned not-guilty verdicts. The family has been left without answers and without the meeting Andy Burnham agreed to. Seventeen weeks later that meeting has still not taken place. A move toward higher office should not cancel a commitment to a traumatised family.

This girl’s voice deserves to be heard. Even if the verdict cannot be changed, the family deserves the meeting that was promised.

We demand that Andy Burnham keeps his word.

We stand with She Remains Brave.
