Bus drivers at Queens Road Depot in Manchester have been on strike against Go North West since February 28. The company is attempting to terminate drivers' contracts and rehire them on worse pay and conditions - including less sick pay. Drivers have been told they must accept new contracts or face the sack.

Bus drivers are key workers who have loyally kept Manchester moving throughout the pandemic. It is outrageous they are now being treated this way. We believe that politicians need to take immediate action to stamp out fire and rehire & send a message to companies that there will be consequences for their actions if they use these tactics. 

We the undersigned call on Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, to back a declaration barring employers like Go North West who execute fire & rehire from bidding for future contracts in our great city. We are asking Andy Burnham to use his powers as mayor to introduce specific conditions for Manchester bus franchise contracts that will forbid this unethical practice and prevent companies that use it from being approved for future contracts.
