ARE AGL FRACK FLUIDS LINKED TO COMMUNITY HEALTH SYMPTOMS?

Fracking is when CSG wells are drilled and a mix of sand, chemicals and fluid is injected into the ground at high pressure to fracture the coal seam and release the gas. A study, done by hydrogeologist Dr. Tom Myers and published in the peer-reviewed "Groundwater" focused solely on the effect hydraulic fracturing has on drinking water. It included statements explaining that "fluids migrated unpredictably through different rock layers, and to greater distances than previously thought". Chemicals can remain in the ground after drilling and are “likely to be transported by groundwater." There are 15 CSG wells alongside the Nepean river which have been fracked. The Nepean river feeds into the upper canal which forms part of our drinking water catchment. Many of these wells were underwater with holding tanks displaced and floating in the river during the recent flooding in Camden. AGL have not notified the community what fluids entered the Nepean river, or how much. Who is protecting our drinking water from contamination ?? There are 20 families living within the Camden Gas Precinct reporting severe health problems. The symptoms being reported are also the same symptoms caused by the chemicals used in AGLs fracking fluid and listed on the respective Material Safety Data sheet. Families living within close proximity to AGL CSG wells have; headaches that last for months, nosebleeds that spurt out and hit the wall like an artery for 20 minutes (up to three times per week), respiratory problems, Asthma like symptoms, eye irritations. AGL have listed the chemicals used during drilling and fracking in the Camden Gas Precinct. The material data safety sheets for these chemicals show how they can affect health. Families living in the Camden Gas field are reporting the same health symptoms as listed below: CHEMICAL 1. XCide 102 HEALTH SYMPTOMS CAUSED Causes eye and skin burns. Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause allergic skin reaction. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Can enter lungs and cause damage. Contains material that may cause target organ damage, based on animal data. Aspiration hazard CHEMICAL 2. GW-27 HEALTH SYMPTOMS Fine dust clouds may form explosive mixtures with air. Handling and/or processing of this material may generate a dust which can cause mechanical irritation of the eyes, skin, nose and throat. Anyone who reads this information can see the connection. When will AGL and the Government admit there is a huge problem here. AGLs Camden Gas Project needs to close down now.
