AGL REFUSE TO MEET WITH COMMUNITY TO ACCEPT PETITION AGAINST CSG

Today we finally received a response to our tweets and emails asking to meet with AGL to present our 10,000 strong petition to close the Camden Gas field. It was not the response we had hoped for with AGL refusing to meet with the concerned community and accept the Petition. This is what was received today in an email; I note your tweet of 5 July advising AGL of your petition. Your previous emails unfortunately would appear to have been sent to an incorrect address as we can find no record of them. The Camden Gas Project has operated safely for 15 years, providing gas for hundreds of thousands of Sydney homes and businesses. While we do understand that some members of the community have concerns about perceived health impacts from gas, the overwhelming weight of independent evidence is that CSG, a non-toxic gas, does not have any measurable health impacts. AGL takes these concerns seriously and we are working closely with regulatory and health authorities to address these perceptions. AGL executives, including members of our Board, have met with members of the Camden community, including Ms Danielle Hodges, to hear and discuss their concerns on a number of occasions. The wells at Spring Farm, drilled in 2009-10, were selected in consultation with Landcom and in consideration of future developments, including the four-lane road which runs between our wells and the nearby residential area. The Glenlee well referred to you on your petition web page was drilled by Sydney Gas before any AGL involvement, when the location was agricultural land. Local homes were built and sold in full view and knowledge of those wells. As you are aware AGL is working to end gas production at Camden in 2023 and is also undertaking an extensive well remediation program which will also be completed. We will continue to work with regulators and the health sector to inform the community about the safe extraction and use of natural gas. If you wish, you can forward a copy of your petition to this email address, however, we will decline your offer to have it presented in person.
