Stop dangerous traffic overload on Hamble Lane.
The Issue
Hostile Planning applications around Hound, Hamble, Netley and Bursledon are threatening the safety and well-being of local communities. The absence of an adopted local plan has left residents feeling like Sitting Ducks…
It is imperative that Hampshire County Council and our elected representatives take immediate and positive action to halt the inappropriate planning applications for housing and care homes that are surplus to need and set to permanently damage our communities.
The cumulative impact of current application will result in at least 1650 additional cars on Hamble Lane, already known as one of the ‘busiest B roads’ in the UK.
HCC must make their objections known to the planning inspectorate without delay. Frustrated drivers, increased air pollution, restricted emergency access and the potential for more accidents along a busy school route (there have already been 2 deaths on the Lane) are not acceptable. Hamble faces ‘lock down’ in the event of an emergency blocking the road, or worse still, if an accident were to occur at the Oil terminal.
Furthermore, Hamble and Hound business owners are set to pull out of the area as employees already struggle to access work. The unique leisure facilities and parks will suffer as visitors take their money elsewhere rather than face the traffic chaos of Hamble Lane, damaging the local economy and rendering over-development unsustainable.
None of the proposed sites are in the current adopted or new draft local plans or the Parish Plans which a large number of local residents have given time to produce.
We expect and demand the council’s backing and protection.
