Danskammer is a fracked gas power plant located on the banks of the Hudson River. It operates just a few days a year, but they want to build a new plant right beside it that will operate nearly around the clock (75% of the time). This will lead to serious health issues targeting black and brown communities in the surrounding area that already have some of the highest asthma rates in the country. These communities have already experienced environmental injustice, with their drinking water being majorly polluted from a toxic chemical known as PFAs.

In addition to these serious health hazards, the location of the expanded plant is on the banks of the Hudson River and was severely damaged during Hurricane Sandy. This spot WILL flood again, during storm surges as sea levels rise. Once the Danskammer plant becomes useless, it will be deemed a "stranded asset", and taxpayers will be left to deal with the mess.

The state has one year to review Danskammer’s application and determine whether to approve or deny the project. That means this sharing your voice is critical for our campaign! In order to stop this power plant we must demonstrate to Governor Cuomo and the Siting Board that New Yorkers are strongly opposed to Danskammer. We must show up via petition or in force with public comments, telling the decision makers they must #STOPDANSKAMMER!
