Governor Cuomo is finally calling the Reproductive Health Act what it is; an abortion law.
But that was about the only truth he told, in a statement he released today in response to the SOTU address last night.
Accusing opponents of “political pandering” and “fear-mongering” on the “far right’s” part, he went on to do just that, in a long diatribe about the current President, Supreme Court, and his Catholic faith….none of which has ANYTHING to do with the passing of the RHA in NYS.
Clearly finding himself on the political defensive as outrage grows across the state over this horrific new law, he belabors on and on about irrelevant facts, in an obvious attempt to both fragment and marginalize opponents, based on religious and/or political grounds; as if this is not a universal, HUMAN rights issue.
In an outright falsehood, he reiterates that the RHA merely codifies Roe v. Wade, when in-fact, it EXPANDS on it in the following three areas. None of these clauses appear in the Roe v. Wade ruling. They are:
Abortion universally de-criminalized by being moved out of the penal code into the health code, meaning whether you’re a doctor or a killer on the street, you WILL NOT be charged with homicide for the murder of an unborn baby.
A person, thereby entitled to legal protections under the law, re-defined as someone “already born alive”, again stripping basic legal rights from the unborn.
“Licensed medical professionals” can now legally perform abortions, whereas only doctors could before.
Effectively, in NYS now, with ANY abortion, there can be no crime because there is no victim and no perpetrator.
He also explicitly states that he signed the RHA because there is a “fear” (who’s fear-mongering now?) that a conservative Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade, when this CANNOT be true because the RHA was first introduced in 2007; LONG before this Supreme Court OR President.
New Yorkers; the pro-abortionists and their political henchmen are now realizing the political damage the RHA could cause them, next election cycle! In response, they’re doubling-down on the smoke-screening and diversionary tactics. They’re waking-up to New Yorker’s collective outrage that NYC buildings were lit-up in CELEBRATION over a law that will doom the lives of countless unborn, savagely during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
Call or fax Governor Cuomo and tell him you will not be distracted by falsehoods, political maneuvering, or intimidation. And that it’s downright insulting to New Yorkers that he would call aspects of the bill “lies”, when ANYONE can easily access and read the brief law, for themselves, and see those “lies” to be 100% true.
Tell him how embarrassing and absurd it is that the lives of Canadian geese are better- protected in our state, than the lives of unborn 2nd and 3rd trimester babies!
Tell him to REPEAL or RESCIND the RHA!
Call and fax your state Senators and Assemblymen who voted for the RHA and demand it’s REPEAL.
