In order to keep our Corals Reefs safe, we must stop using chemical sunscreens. The mains causes for the deaths of coral reefs have to do with pollution, and warming waters. The type of pollution that's killing coral reefs is from harmful chemicals found in sunscreen which causes coral bleaching. Any use of sunscreen with chemicals inevitably gets into the ocean, therefore, killing the reefs. For example, when you put sunscreen on at the beach you're putting those chemicals directly into the ocean. But even if you put on sunscreen during the day to just be outside when you shower or wash your hands or face you rinse the sunscreen off going down the drain into the ocean. So the only solution for that is to eliminate the use of chemical sunscreens. Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Homosalate, or Octocrylene found in chemical sunscreens cause coral bleaching. If you do not already know Coral reefs protect coastlines from storms and erosion, they provide jobs for local communities, they offer opportunities for recreation, they're a source of food and new medicines, they generate half of Earth's oxygen, and absorb nearly one-third of the carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels. Without Coral reefs, our chance of survival will plummet. You don't want to wake up in 20 years and regret you had done something to help. So here is your chance, help me ban the sale of chemical sunscreens in New York State. This is not something I can do alone so I need support from every person reading this, if you want to go on a walk in 30 years and not wear an oxygen mask then please help because it is not much work to sign this and other petitions.
