Joann Verderosa started this petition to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

More and more we hear how fireworks create increased anxiety in animals and our veterans who have PTSD. Our animals (I.e. dogs, horses, cats, etc) get injured or go missing and Veterans and those with anxiety disorders suffer in a trauma induced state full of flashbacks and fear.

Since legalizing fireworks in NYS people now find a multitude of reasons to set them off without consideration for the people living around them. Many of us understand and prepare for them on July 4th and even the days leading up to and following the holiday. But when people are allowed to set them off whenever they want we the people who’s family members suffer are then unable to prepare. Not only that but these events can go on for hours on end with no rights on the part of the people and animals who suffer. We attempt to medicate or muffle the noise but have to sit and not know when it will start or stop. Even a traditional fireworks display at a large venue last 15-30 minutes, not hours.

I ask that you join me in standing up to changing the rules on personal firework usage,  to only allowing them to be set off on JULY 4th! People would retain their right to celebrate the holiday, but allow the people and animals the right to know the rest of their summer can be peaceful.
