NY TINT LAW

The Issue

Since January 1st 2017, NY government has passed a Tint law for passenger vehicles. This has caused multiple controversies and indeed an influx of distribution of tickets. I understand the side of “safety” for officers but what about “privacy” and “safety” of an individual? I have experienced multiple times where random men and women come up to my windows whether my car is parked, in traffic or even in a parking lot and I am physically sitting inside. As an owner of the vehicle, I feel I have the right to privacy and safety of what is in my vehicle.

In the business aspect, a lot of vehicles come factory tinted from the manufacturers. If window tinting is illegal, then ALL business and manufactures should no longer produce “privacy glass.” Even on law enforcement vehicles.

In the safety aspect, a lot of people stated they want to see the driver in case of an accident were to occur. If you see the vehicle color, make, model or able to take their license plate, that should be enough for the police to identify and track the driver. Plus now a days everyone is so quick to catch it on their smartphones, so take a picture!

There are better laws to create with better reasoning than a tint law. This is another way of the government to create rules, that for years prior was certainly not an issue, and are forced to pay ridiculous hard working money that just go to the town or the city.

Personally, if you’re a car person, tinted windows make the car much more classy, sleek and much more appealing to the eyes. If anything, tints are producing money for small business and big business. Everyone can support their families, not just the law enforcement.
