Hello My Name Is Chaunessy Massiah and I’m starting this petition in regards to my husband Devante Massiah who is a father of three , loving son and sibling. My husband was recently transferred to Elmira Correctional Facility after being in Monroe County Jail for 5 months. After not hearing from him for a while I instantly began to feel something was wrong because it’s not like him not to reach out to me, so finally I spoke with him Tuesday morning and he proceeded to tell everything that was going on and why he couldn’t contact me. He told me that he has tested positive for COVID-19 , they had him on lockdown since Friday not letting him out to bathe himself or reach out to me.

It was also brought to my attention that he was forced to clean another inmates cell who had tested positive for Covid-19 without his knowledge. He also told me that the people who prepared their food were the ones who 1st had the virus and the facility continued to let them serve all the inmates. No one in that facility wears mask nor are they taking this virus serious .

I reached out to the facility multiple times wondering what was going on but kept getting the runaround, I’m starting this petition for my husband and many other inmates who need help because without it they’ll be stuck in there being treated like animals left to die .
