“For four years, the Absolut nursing home has been one of the lowest-rated in Erie and Niagara counties and among the lowest-rated in New York. The federal government’s overall rating for the facility was one star, or "much below average," every month for four years until last month. Only a handful of the 620 nursing homes in the state had worse ratings in recent years than Absolut at Aurora Park when all five criteria in the five-star rating system are considered.”

I pulled my father from this facility on 12.26.18 after two months of fighting for basic human needs which were not being met. Had he stayed there I am 100% sure he would have died. My heart aches for the victims stuck in this facility who do not have anyone to advocate for them. They do not get a say and are stuck in a nightmare. They deserve better.
We need safer staffing ratios. We need local owners in the non-profit model. We need care and compassion for the elderly and vulnerable. They are human beings, not dollar signs.
