Andrew Jackson's Statue SHOULD NOT be in the Center of our City

Andrew Jackson's Statue SHOULD NOT be in the Center of our City
The Issue
Beside the Capitol Building, in the very center of downtown, sits a man atop a horse, looking down at the city. This man is Andrew Jackson, the president who put in place the Indian Removal Act, and who is responsible for the later Trail of Tears, the bloodshed of an estimated thousands of lives staining his clothes.
He began the policy of Native American relocation in the United States and relocated around 70,000 native people. He committed atrocities against Native Americans and was directly responsible for the deaths of at least thousands of people. He began the destruction of the beautiful lands of the United States, which had been cultivated by Native Hands for thousands of years.
This statue being in the very center of our city sends a clear message that his actions weren't bad enough for us to be ashamed of his name being associated with our state/city. But we should be.
We call for the removal of Andrew Jackson's statue, and for it to be placed in storage. By having this statue in front of our Capitol building, it represents our morals and our allegiances. The people of the city of Raleigh and the State of North Carolina stand against this message.
