Make NYS Campgrounds Essential

0 have signed. Let’s get to 50,000!

We are asking you today to sign this petition in support of making campgrounds in New York State essential. Campgrounds provide an essential service to those who may not otherwise have somewhere to safely stay during these times. Campground owners across the state have come together to decide what would be best for daily operations during this outbreak complying with CDC Guidelines. This would include but is not limited to; keep public areas in the park closed, allow a place for campers to shelter in place should they find themselves needing to, and non-recreational essential camping only. Please contact your local campground for more information to see what they are doing to keep their campers safe.

Keeping campgrounds open would provide families the opportunity to shelter in place should someone in their family be an essential worker. New York State has previously granted essential status to hotels, campgrounds, and other lodging. Campgrounds also provide a place for the out of town essential workforce to stay while they are here saving lives. Campers provide their own space for individuals to be distanced from each other by providing their own units and the lot that they rent/own.

People are losing out on money spent to camp and own a camper. With spring and summer coming, opening campgrounds would be an ideal decision to allow people to get out of their homes while also having a safe distanced place to stay.
