The Issue

Kalief Browder spent three years in New York City's Rikers Island jail without being convicted of a crime. After his release, Kalief struggled with mental health, and eventually committed suicide on June 6, 2015.
During Kalief's wrongful incarceration he was physically and mentally abused by New York City employee's, gang assaulted by other inmates, and overlooked by the judicial system countless times. Many New York State and City officials and employees that failed Kalief, have actually retained their positions while others have been promoted.
Kaliefapology is an act that needs to be passed into law. Kalief was a victim and only wanted an apology and corrective actions to be taken within the prison system. In addition, the pain and suffering Kalief endured should have been acknowledged immediately. All of the witness accounts and evidence discovered corroborated with Kalief's account, but New York deliberately avoided a timely settlement. Kaliefapology will hold governing officials accountable in ensuring a fair and expeditious due process, regarding wrongful treatment and deaths of others at the hands of officials and employees, that take an oath to protect citizens. Corrective actions would also become effective immediately when evidence and witness accounts are very transparent.
Kalief's story can be watched on Netflix, "The Kalief Browder Story" produced by Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter.
