Today I received four letters in the mail from the NY State of Health marketplace. Two dated different days, stating the exact same thing...my 16 year old and I have insurance and my fiance gets tax credits towards insurance. The other two, dated the same day, state that my ten year old son still does not have health insurance due to lack of income verification! It actually requests I send in four weeks of paystubs for him! So again, I call the marketplace and explain to yet another representative that this is a TEN YEAR OLD CHILD WE ARE SPEAKING OF! I informed him that I have sent in bank statements to show my checks that I get for income that are direct deposit because I am privately employed. I sent in a three month word document showing my income with deductions twice! I've sent in paystubs for my fiance and my 16 year old son. I sent in a letter from my 16 year old's place of employment stating that he only works when they need him. I have sent in my 2017 1040. I have sent in a letter stating that the child they dropped is a ten year old child, can not legally work in the USA and that his father and I financial support him. I have also sent in a letter from my fiance' s work stating he does not work a full 52 weeks a year as he works construction, does not get paid time off and receives unemployment during the winter. I explained to this representative that I absolutely have NO MORE DOCUMENTATION TO HAND IN! He apologized for the other representatives asking me to send in all of that paperwork and my son getting dropped. He then tells me that they aren't really looking for my son's income, but they are looking for mine and my finances income. I told him that I realize that but obviously the people working there do not! I said if they are only looking for our income, how come we have insurance but my ten year old still does not! After several minutes on hold, he informs me that the letter I sent stating that my fiance and I financially support our ten year old has been looked at but it never got verified so that his eligibility was run again. Without being rude, I asked him if the people there actually know what they are doing? I'm doing my part but they consistently screw up and we suffer the consequences and it is completely unfair, unprofessional and illegal! Now I have to call back in five days to see if they have run the eligibility for my ten year old so that he can be reinstated. I informed this representative that I had to cancel my son's follow up appointment for his Tourettes because he has no insurance and asked him what I'm supposed to do if he gets sick. He said, "Take him to the emergency room and use his Medicaid card." I laughed and said, "u
Remember, he doesn't have health insurance! " He doesn't have Medicaid and won't have Medicaid because his father claimed him on his taxes and made too much for a family of two. So if I take him to the ER, that will be a huge bill we are stuck with that we won't be able to pay. Unbelievable! It's clear that the people working for the NYS of Health marketplace have no idea what they are doing and that they are not doing the job they are supposed to do or my son would never have lost his insurance.
