Open the entire Yerrabi Spillway as a legal graffiti site

The issue

So a couple of weeks ago the spillway under Mirrabei Dr in Gungahlin became a legal graffiti practice site. Little detail or restrictions about the space was given, so artists assumed the whole space was fair game for creativity. The walls suddenly exploded with the colour of works by some of Canberra's best street artists. Public feedback towards the work being created and the future of the space was overwhelmingly positive and excited. Locals passing by were stoked to see the bland tunnels being coloured in and brought to life. Giving them something new every day to walk past and enjoy. But then, as if it was just a cruel tease and glimpse of what could be, TAMS came, cleaned off the artworks created, and restricted the allocated space to less than a tenth of the entire spillway. While it's great to have any of the space at all, the potential of the walls are going to waste. Imagine if this entire space was free to paint and create on. this could genuinely become an iconic part of Canberra's street and art culture, outdoors for anyone to enjoy for free.

You can help by signing this petition and helping to show TAMS the public's positive view and opinion on street art and desire to let these walls flourish with colour.

Thank you
