A TOTAL ban on Ivory sales in the UK
A TOTAL ban on Ivory sales in the UK
The Issue
Both in 2010 and in 2016 the Conservative Government manifesto advocated the pressing for a total and complete ban of the sales of Ivory in raw and carved states, to help inhibit the flow of aid material to the Far East whereby the purchase of these items is used to cover the illegal trade in more recently hunted Ivory. Having watched the two part documentary on the BBC by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall it is more than clear and obvious that it is ESSENTIAL that this is done as a step forward in the worldwide ban of the trade in Ivory resulting in the murder of thousands of Elephants every year.
The government AGAIN failed recently in it's manifesto commitment by watering the ban down to that of pre 1947 Ivory. How can this be policed? Will the necessary checks be put in place for EVERY single piece sold? I find it unlikely. Therefore I ask that you sign this petition in the name of an animal that is dying for greed, and will be extinct in less than 50 years, a poor legacy to be left to our future generations.
We in the United Kingdom have a huge debt to pay to this animal, and not just lip service, having been involved in the murder of over 1 million of them for the sake of fancy trinkets. Now is the time for us to give something back.
SUPPORT A TOTAL BAN ON THE SALE OF ANY IVORY, OLD OR NEW< CARVED OR RAW.
