Over the last week, there's been lots going on with the campaign! Firstly, I went on a trip to a commercial free range farm, Wood Farm free range eggs. I also went to a meeting with CIWF (compassion in world farming) where we discussed the future of the petition and the incredible work they are constantly doing! Not to mention the fact that the petition has now reached over 75,000 signatures! My trip to Wood Farm, has proven to me that caged hen farming is not in any way the only option for the egg industry. It is so important that hens are given space to roam freely, and Wood Farm is a fantastic example of this! The hens have access to large outdoor areas, with trees and perches, as well as indoor space, with hay bales and dust bathing areas. This is genuine enrichment, and puts to shame, the title of ‘enriched cages’. For more regular updates on the campaign, please join the Facebook page (End caged hen farming in the UK), or follow me on Twitter (@LucyGavaghan). The amount of support you have all shown for the petition has been amazing, and it really goes to show that people want caged hen farming to end. People want to know that the eggs they are buying are sourced from an ethical environment, and that the eggs within other products they are buying are also free range. The only way we can have this guarantee, is by making caged hen farming illegal within the UK. Please share the petition in any way you can! Thank you all again! Lucy
