The Issue

UPDATE:

Two rescue groups in the Upstate have come together to save these cats, but it is reported that Anderson County P.A.W.S. is refusing to release them to the group.

Points and Patches Rescue reports on their Facebook page that they went to the P.A.W.S. facility on Sunday, July 6th but that P.A.W.S. would not release the cats they came to pick up to them.

There is a great deal of confusion regarding this situation. Please continue signing until we know that each and every cat has been rescued.

###################

Julianne Westberry was supposedly a cat rescuer living in Belton, SC. On June 18th, police responding to a report of a foul smell coming from her home found more than 50 cats dead in various states of decomposition. Others still alive have since died despite emergency veterinary care. Only a small number made it out alive.

On July 2nd another location was found, a farm where a large number of cats (no one knows for sure) were allegedly dumped to live in the open by Westberry. Anderson County Animal Control went out there and began trapping. However, since these cats are considered owner-surrender, they only have a very short time before they can be put to sleep. Anderson County P.A.W.S. says they will start killing these cats on Monday, July 7th at 6:00 p.m. on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Anderson-County-PAWS/155508934490016

I and all of those who sign this petition are asking Anderson County P.A.W.S. to give the Westberry cats another ten days before killing them so that rescues and owners from around the state and the Southeast will have time to look at the pictures P.A.W.S. has posted and rescue cats turned over to Julianne Westberry, or adopt cats from P.A.W.S. This is a holiday weekend - many people are out of town, away from internet, involved with family activities. P.A.W.S. has essentially given these cats NO time.

I realize this will place a strain on P.A.W.S., and hope that this petition and media coverage of this arrest and situation will spur people to offer to foster and adopt. But these cats, especially after all they have been through, deserve a chance. Please give it to them.
