Declare that the Anchorage public emergency no longer exists

Declare that the Anchorage public emergency no longer exists
The Issue
The Anchorage Assembly has declared COVID-19 is a threat to our community, maintained, and extended the emergency orders that have restricted the movement, liberty, and freedom of the citizens while the Assembly continues to discuss Municipal business not pertaining to the health emergency and detrimental impacts these restrictions have caused for the citizens they represent. The declared public health emergency has not affected the Assembly's ability to conduct business as usual yet said public health emergency has significantly impacted every aspect of their constituent's lives. The extension of Municipal Emergency Orders has significantly affected the quality of life of Anchorage constituents including but not limited to economic instability, financial hardship, children not receiving full education benefits, a rise in mental health issues including suicide among children, a rise in unreported child and spouse abuse, and other life-altering ramifications. The Assembly is locking down their citizens under the guise of protecting the most vulnerable COVID-19 citizens, but there are alternative methods to address protecting the most vulnerable COVID-19 citizens. The vulnerable citizens can choose to stay home, wear a face covering, and physical distance. Per the CDC, the survivability rate for individuals 0-69 years without underlying conditions is 99.99%. The Assembly picks and chooses the scientific data that supports their agenda and is not facilitating the best interest of the majority of their constituents. The Assembly should be limited to only discussing Municipal business that directly pertains to the Public Health Emergency while the Emergency Orders are currently in effect. The Assembly should be limited to only taking action on action items that directly pertain to the Public Health Emergency while the Emergency Orders are currently in effect. If the Assembly wants to conduct Municipal business as usual the citizens of Anchorage request that the Assembly declares that the emergency no longer exists.
