Declaration for Respect for Life

The Earth gives us everything. It provides the air we breathe, the water we drink, the forests that protect us, the oceans that regulate our climate, the soil that feeds us, and the entire web of life upon which our future depends.

Yet, in the decisions that shape our future, the interests of the living world are still too often overlooked.

In the face of today’s environmental, climate, social, and human challenges, we believe it is time to open a new chapter in our shared history.

A chapter where respect for life becomes a guiding principle for our individual and collective decisions.

The Ancestral Parliament of the Earth is an independent citizens’ assembly founded on a simple conviction: A society that no longer respects life ultimately compromises its own future.

Our mission is to restore the art of respect for life by creating dialogue between ancestral wisdom, scientific knowledge, citizens, institutions, territories, and future generations.

Our ambition is to help ensure that the voice of the Earth is meaningfully considered in the decisions that shape our common future.

Today, we launch The Call of 100,000 Founding Citizens of the Ancestral Parliament of the Earth. Our goal is to unite 100,000 Founding Citizens around this Declaration for Respect for Life.

Once this milestone is reached, the Ancestral Parliament of the Earth will officially present this Declaration to the French National Assembly, inviting it to open a national dialogue on how the interests of the living world can be better reflected in public policy.

Our hope is that this Declaration will inspire other parliaments, governments, institutions, universities, organizations, and citizens around the world.

The Ancestral Parliament of the Earth does not seek to replace existing institutions.

Rather, it seeks to serve as an independent citizens’ forum for dialogue, consultation, and proposals, bringing together Indigenous Peoples, scientists, citizens, artists, entrepreneurs, young people, local communities, and all those committed to protecting life.

We believe that humanity’s greatest achievements arise when different forms of knowledge learn to work together rather than in opposition.

We believe that protecting life is, ultimately, protecting our own future.
