Fight for West Anaheim's Districts 1 and 2 for the 2016 Ballot
The Issue
Last year, Anaheim voters elected to divide our City into six (6) districts effective in 2016. There will be four (4) districts eligible for the ballot for the November 2016 election. The map that was ultimately selected by the City Council split what is currently West Anaheim into essentially District 1 and 2. Now that decision is in dispute as well as changing the current map to consultant map 2. You can view each consultant map here: www.anaheim.net/2158/draft-districting-maps
We are asking that ALL of West Anaheim be represented in 2016. Please sign and forward to as many of your neighbors as possible. You may also call or email City Council to make the same request. I have included their contact information below.
West Anaheim residents who voted for districting did so in the hopes of achieving representation from a community member who lived in their surrounding neighborhood. In fact, all of the campaign literature that advocated for districts stated that district elections would allow "neighbors to elect neighbors”.
It is absolutely vital that Districts 1 and 2 be included in the 2016 election given that residents in what currently encompasses West Anaheim have not had neighborhood representation in nearly two decades - less than any other proposed district in Anaheim. There is currently a push by interests OUTSIDE of Anaheim to remove District 2 and put District 3 in its place.
If we want adequate representation for our community, we need to sign and submit the petition to enable District 1 and 2 to elect a candidate in the next election.
