Ban Milo Yiannopoulos' hate speech from coming to the University of Washington

The University of Washington has an on-going systemic problem with bigotry, misogyny, racism, fear mongering, and intolerance. Current employee Michael Katze - who is currently under administrative investigation -was found by the University to have engaged in rampant sexual harassment, including using school funds and his position at the university to solicit sex.

Now it has come to our attention that a UW Registered Student Organization: University of Washington College Republicans (UWCR) are bringing Milo Yiannopolous - renown bigot and misogynist, to speak at the University of Washington on January 20th, 2017

We are calling on University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce to recognize that Milo Yiannopolous speaking at our university would be in violation of the WAC 478-120-024:

"Prohibited conduct.

9. Discriminatory harassment.

Discriminatory harassment is language or conduct directed at a person because of the person's race, color, creed, religion, national origin, citizenship, sex, age, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, or veteran status that is unwelcome and sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive such that it could reasonably be expected to create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment, or has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with a person's academic or work performance, or the person's ability to participate in or benefit from the university's programs, services, opportunities, or activities."

And we ask that she ban him from speaking on campus and release a public statement explaining why this sort of hate speech will not be tolerated.

----------

Milo Yiannopoulos has been banned from schools and online platforms before, for egregious harassment, bigotry, condoning sexual violence, and inciting his followers to engage in similar acts of harassment, intimidation, and coercion against minority communities.

Please make the right choice President Ana Mari Cauce and stand up for student safety and tolerance on campus. Please stand with us - your students, faculty, staff, workers, and community members in opposing this hatred from being spread on our campus.

Sincerely,

Concerned U.W. community members
