An Urgent Appeal to Democratic Members of Congress and Other Leaders of the Democratic Party
We are greatly concerned by the lack of energy shown by the Democratic leadership in dealing with the threat of Trump and his minions.
We do not remember when, during our lifetimes, the country seemed so internally divided nor a time when democracy was so in peril.
One of our basic and most precious principles has been challenged - - the peaceful transfer of power. Even though Al Gore and Richard Nixon may have had reason to question their election results, neither of them challenged that principle.
Despite the significant legislative advances made by President Biden and his administration, we still remain on the defensive in dealing with Trump and the majority of the Republican Party. This seems to be confirmed by the polls and the negative expectations for the 2022 elections.
We are pleading with the Democratic leadership—begging, if necessary – to energize its message to the public, and thereby energize the nation to counter the clear and present danger to our democracy posed by Trump and the Republican leadership.
The ability to mobilize and inspire a nation with words was proven by Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s and 1940s.
Perhaps it is time for us to get angry. Bi-partisanship works when there is someone to reason with. That someone isn’t around today. The result is that we must—we are forced to – shout out to the country that democracy is in peril. To anyone who thinks this is an exaggeration, we ask you to reread the history of Europe during the 1930s.
Please be a voice for us and speak out on our behalf.
