Football Should Unite Rather Than Divide
To the President of FIFA, the FIFA Council, and the Global Football Community,

Football is often described as the world's universal language. It transcends borders, cultures, religions, and politics, bringing billions of people together through a shared passion for the beautiful game.

This petition is not a criticism of the FIFA World Cup, nor a demand for immediate change. Instead, it is an invitation to imagine a different perspective and to spark a conversation about the values that football represents.

During the recent FIFA World Cup third-place match, I witnessed something remarkable. Freed from the immense pressure of competing for the championship, both teams played with creativity, confidence, and mutual respect. The football was open, entertaining, and full of sportsmanship. After the final whistle, both teams could celebrate meaningful achievements, and the atmosphere was one of appreciation rather than heartbreak.

It led me to ask a simple question:

Could football celebrate excellence without requiring one final moment that leaves one nation in absolute triumph and another in profound disappointment?

The FIFA World Cup Final is one of the greatest sporting events on Earth. It has produced unforgettable memories and legendary champions. Yet it also represents the highest level of pressure imaginable, where caution often replaces freedom, and where one team's greatest joy inevitably becomes another team's deepest sorrow.

As a thought experiment, I respectfully propose an alternative vision—not as a practical reform to be adopted tomorrow, but as a conversation worth having.

Imagine a World Cup where the two finalists are both recognized as champions of extraordinary achievement. Rather than contesting one final match, each team would return home celebrated by its people, receiving a symbolic share of the World Cup's highest honor. Instead of a single winner and a single loser, the tournament would conclude by recognizing the remarkable journey of both nations.

Such an idea challenges centuries of sporting tradition. It may never become reality, and many people will understandably disagree. That is perfectly acceptable.

The purpose of this petition is not to erase competition, nor to diminish the achievements of world champions. Competition is one of the foundations of sport. Rather, it is to encourage reflection on whether the ultimate purpose of football is only to determine who is the best—or also to inspire friendship, respect, joy, and unity among humanity.

Football has the extraordinary power to unite people who may otherwise never stand together. Perhaps its greatest victory is not measured by trophies, but by the connections it creates across the world.

Whether you support this idea or oppose it, I hope it encourages meaningful discussion about the future of football and the values we wish the sport to embody.

Because perhaps the greatest championship is not won on the pitch.

Perhaps it is won in the hearts of people.
