An appeal to the Clooney foundation for Justice on behalf of Tigray, Ethiopia.

An appeal to the Clooney foundation for Justice on behalf of Tigray, Ethiopia.
The Issue
First, a short open letter from Dr. Tony Magaña:
To: Open Letter to Mr. George Clooney
Subject: The Humanitarian Crisis of the People of Tigray
Dear Sir,
As an American neurosurgeon and researcher who lived in Tigray since 2015 I am writing to you out of frank desperation for the plight of the over 6 million Tigrayans living in constant fear. They have suffered extra judicial killing, military targeting, sexual violation, mutilation, starvation, displacement or confinement, isolation, and lack of health care consistently since November 2020.
While the world is focused on the civilian catastrophe of Ukraine very little world public attention has been made regards Tigray. The Ethiopian government in addition to carrying out an inhumane blockade of vital supplies has also blocked independent third party access by news media to report on the situation. The concept of “sovereignty” over human needs has prevented the African Union as well as the United Nations to implement any significant relief to the worsening suffering and death that grows by the day.
As a prominent concerned citizen of the United States and the world your voice for the suffering in Darfur focused the world on the suffering there. We are hopeful that lending your voice and influence could once again bring this current disaster into a major focus of concern which it urgently needs.
Thank you for your time in receiving this plea.
Sincerely,
Professor Tony Magana MD, Head of Neurosurgery Department (on sabatical)

Second, a more in depth letter from the broader Tigrayan diaspora:
To: The Clooney Foundation
Subject: An appeal to your foundation to help stop the ongoing genocide in Tigray, Ethiopia
To the wonderful people at the Clooney Foundation,
We are writing this appeal to seek your help to stop the catastrophic situation in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Given your formidable and successful experience in exposing violations of human rights and your actions to bring a much needed attention from the international community (IC) to stop or address such violations, we appeal for the personal attention of the Clooney family and the foundation to help in ending the ongoing genocidal war against the people of Tigray.
The people of Tigray have found themselves in a horrific position with their existence challenged with the war perpetrated against them . In November 2020 the phones and lights were turned off and the joint forces of the Ethiopian army, Eritrean army and Amhara regional militia (Fano) attacked Tigray. The claimed cause was an attack on the Ethiopian northern command by Tigrayan authorities. But satellite images show the full surrounding of Tigray for an invasion that would begin on the day of the US elections. Since then, based on estimates from researchers at Ghent University, over half a million Tigrayans, out of a population of 6 million, have perished. About 8% of the ethnic Tigrayan population. About 112,000 women were raped, and over 2 million people internally displaced. In addition, according to reports, 81% of farming households have been affected through wide-ranging destruction such as looting, burning, and destruction of seeds, crops and farm implements resulting in starvation to death from a man-made famine.
Those estimates are from March 2022 and were the lower bounds. In September 2021 CNN produced a set of investigative pieces by Nima Elbagir that highlighted the genocidal nature of what was happening in Tigray. In addition the genocidal language has been consistent and completely unchecked by any platforms, including social media companies. The Tigrayan ethnicity is now described as a virus that must be completely erased or else "the one virus" will spread again. Very few people who report on Tigray even acknowledge this despite how open, brazen and relevant it is.

Recently the UN Genocide Watch and Crisis Group have sounded the alarm for genocide in Tigray. But an examination of the situation will quickly realize how delayed that alarm was. The population of Tigray is being exterminated rapidly. This is well documented and approved in a bi-partisan way by the Senate (S3199) and House (HR6600) Foreign Relations committee legislations that have yet to be endorsed by the full senate or congress. Mentions of Tigray fighting back by Biden's administration include tons of false equivalence and PR attempts that seem to minimize how purposeful and horrific this crisis is. In fact, despite the very limited coverage, Nima Elbagir received an Emmy for her coverage of the genocidal war on Tigray. Thus, there is substantial evidence (see links below) to support the gravity of the deadliest war on earth right now. With your support, this could garner the needed action to stop the war as you did in the Sudan.

Since December of 2021, the UNSC has held more than a dozen meetings to discuss the situation in Tigray, all of them set as “Any Other Business” (AOB) agenda. Due to opposition from Russia and China, the Security Council failed to take actions and missed the opportunity to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of Tigrayans and to protect tens of thousands of women and girls from rape and dehumanization at the hands of Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Amhara forces. Since June of last year, the Ethiopian government has put aside its guns and is using siege as its war strategy to starve, weaken, and kill more Tigrayans. Thousands of children, women, and the elderly have perished from lack of food and medicine, while the UNSC sat and watched one of the 21st century's worst disasters happening in front of the IC. Your voice could make a difference in bringing the much needed action by the UNSC to stop the war.
Meanwhile, apart from exceptional people like Nima Elbagir of CNN, Declan Walsh of the New York Times and very few others, the media has been silent and outlets have just recently decided to print stories about an ignored war which is effectively being described as a genocide. Your voice could be a game changer in terms of the coverage this war could receive from the media and hence bring the much needed attention from the international community and especially from the US government.
What is happening in Tigray is an unabated, viscous genocide. We need the world's attention on this and you could play a pivotal role. So far, not one major celebrity has even mentioned this event. This is the largest genocide of this century and likely the largest since the Cambodian genocide. As the next phase enters this starts to exceed the Cambodian genocide and start to rival the Holocaust.
From Nov 2020 through June 2021 many horrific war crimes and atrocities have been recorded by the occupying forces of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Rejecting peace proposals by the IC, they have now started another round of atrocities with a much more serious conviction to erase the population. Their current effort is supported with much more resources for buying drones and other armaments coming from UAE, China and Turkey to do so. Unfortunately the US & UN have also provided funds in the name of aid which is being used by the Ethiopian government to support its genocidal efforts. Given the track record of the Clooney family in stopping similar atrocities in Africa, we appeal for your involvment to stop the Tigray genocide.
Mr. George and Mrs. Amal Clooney, we need you desperately. If you could please help gain public knowledge of this event. If you could please start highlighting the many videos and other evidence for what is happening in Tigray. If you could simply help stop the incredibly negligent behavior of the International community including some of the agencies funded by the US government that continue to do business with the genocidal government of Ethiopia. Your action would literally save MILLIONS of lives.
Please, please, please, we need you. Clooney Foundation, please help Tigray.
With Love & Respect,
On behalf of the Tigrayan diaspora.
