In 2017, Amtrak's Northeast Regional service was extended from Lynchburg to Roanoke. However, the service should be extended further south to Bristol, Virginia, since Bristol, Virginia is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States without passenger rail service. Bristol, Virginia has not seen passenger rail service since 1971, the year that Amtrak was established. This is unacceptable.
