The Issue

The time has come for every concerned citizen in the diaspora and at home to stand up against the unwelcome and undemocratic actions of ZanuPF, a party that attempts to stifle and silence the masses of Zimbabwe. We stand united in rejecting Amendment No. 3, a legal change set to be imposed without the essential democratic process of a referendum, effectively denying the Zimbabwean people a critical platform to express their voices.

This petition arises from the core belief that the ZanuPF government has consistently bypassed the voices of the people, prioritizing their political agendas over the citizens' needs and rights. Many within the diaspora, including myself, are deeply affected by the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe—a challenge that extends beyond borders and significantly impacts neighboring South Africa. ZanuPF's influence extends to using media as a propaganda tool, a tactic designed to manipulate perceptions rather than portray the stark realities faced by the Zimbabwean populace.

It is particularly alarming that such substantial legal amendments could be passed without consulting the people it most affects—the ordinary Zimbabweans. The circulation of generalized statements by ZanuPF in an attempt to speak on behalf of the masses does not and should not replace the need for authentic public discourse and democratic engagement.

South Africa plays a critical role as a notable neighbor to Zimbabwe, a country that inevitably bears the burden of its neighbours' economic and social challenges. Therefore, we appeal to the South African parliament to debate this critical issue, urging them to hold ZanuPF accountable for its actions. By combining forces, we can amplify our voices and ensure that the concerns of ordinary citizens are heard.

We represent the masses who have been marginalized, and our aim is clear: we want international attention turned towards the misconduct of the ZanuPF government. It is imperative that the political landscape in Zimbabwe changes to one that respects and upholds the democratic rights of its people. This call for action is not merely for those within Zimbabwe, but for everyone around the world who values democracy, transparency, and justice.

Help us hold those in power to account and demand that ZanuPF chooses dialogue and transparency over oppression and deceit. Sign this petition to stand with the citizens of Zimbabwe and South Africa, for a future where every voice counts and every opinion matters.
