These beautiful flamingos are under threat.

“Flamingo city” in the Rann of Kutch is the only place where flamingos breed within the Indian subcontinent.

The government has decided to construct a road right through the heart of the Rann.

Building a road through this sanctuary will dangerously impact the fragile ecosystem of the region and will ruin the nesting ground for the Flamingoes.

These majestic birds will lose their only breeding site- which will greatly affect their population!

But together we can stop this. As Brand Ambassador of Gujarat, Amitabh Bachchan is in a position to influence the government, like he did with “Save the Tiger” campaign.

Sign my petition asking Amitabh Bachchan to make a public statement to Save Flamingo City.

According to experts, building a new road makes no economical sense, especially considering the fact that it will remain inaccessible during monsoon. In this case, there’s already an existing road that is being used- why build another?

The previous National Board for Wildlife stated that construction in these sections will spell doom for the Kutch ecosystem. Not just Flamingoes, but the habitat of the Asian Wild Ass is under danger too.

 400 Flamingoes were electrocuted after they came in contact with high tension wires in 2011. After immense pressure from the people, the wires were moved underground.

If all of us come together, we can stop the construction of the road as well.

Amitabh Bachchan has used Rann of Kutch as a backdrop to promote Gujarat tourism but now it is time to save it. If enough of us sign this petition, Amitabh Bachchan will have to make a public statement and add his voice to ours by taking up the issue.

It is essential for us to protect this shrinking corner of the world where wild animals still run free.
