Americans United for Ukraine, NATO, and Democracy

Americans United for Ukraine, NATO, and Democracy
The Issue
Dear People of Ukraine,
We the People:
● support you
● know you are fighting valiantly for your country which Russia invaded to annex territory
● see you in ourselves as we too had to fight for our freedom, liberty and democracy
● understand that, like your reliance on help, we sought and received vital assistance from France, Spain and the Netherlands in our American Revolution, without which we might not have prevailed
● remember that after the terrorist attack on the United States of America on 9-11, NATO invoked its collective defense clause, Article 5, for the first and only time in its history, condemning the attacks and offering support to the United States
● know NATO is a collective security system of 32 member countries formed in 1949 after WWII to block expansion in Europe by the former Soviet Union, a group of communist republics which included Russia
● acknowledge that NATO's newest members are Sweden and Finland, which applied to NATO in May 2022 shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine
● value each nation's territorial integrity and desire for peace, which NATO exists to fortify by its existence and its "all for one; one for all" promise of solidarity
By signing this declaration, we affirm that we support the statement of facts above and:
● stand by the people of Ukraine and publicly acknowledge that we believe in you and your cause
● support NATO and its defensive alliance to safeguard each member nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity
● and hereby demand the President and Congress of the United States of America to affirm these same principles with immediate action, reversing the current course abandoning Ukraine and threatening our longstanding NATO alliance.
Respectfully submitted,
