Over the last six months, Student Government has put together a report that calls on President Kerwin and the University to adopt a Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities that would codify student rights into a single document for years to come.

AU has a culture that fosters engagement and open dialogue, which is protected by policies that span over dozens of University policies. In recent history, students at AU have become increasingly engaged and outspoken about key University issues like the 2013 Budget Discussion and Smoke-Free AU.

Although American University is committed to protecting students, it lacks a codified policy that outlines student rights.
