Wake up Akita Club of America! It's about time the Long Coated Akita is removed from the 'FAULT' list, and designated in their own variety group. 
Many high quality Akitas are being ignored by the ACA, simply because of the length of their fur. 
Dachshunds and Collies are just two examples of breeds that come in varying coat varieties. Why are they accepted, but the Long Coated Akita is not? 
The gene is a simple recessive one, and most breeding programs at this time will produce the occasional Long Coat. Many of these dogs have a gorgeous conformation, and exceptional temperament. Why should they be penalized in the show ring, simply for expressing the Long Coat gene? I, along with many others feel passionate about this issue, and are pushing the Akita Club of America to STOP denying the Long Coated Akita, and allow them to be judged FAIRLY in their own variety group.
